A Cook County woman wanted for the murder of her 19-month-old son, who had gone three days without food before dying last fall, has been apprehended in Tennessee.
Jamie Hannion, 22, of Lyons Township, was arrested earlier this month on a first-degree murder warrant after the FBI Fugitive Task Force learned she was visiting family out of state.
An investigation revealed that Hannion left her son in the care of a relative on October 17, 2022, who discovered the boy and called police.
Deputies from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Justice and discovered Hannion’s son “cold to the touch with blue lips” in his crib.
The boy was severely malnourished, and rigor mortis appeared to be setting in.
He was declared dead at the scene. The medical examiner in Cook County ruled the boy’s death a homicide by nutritional neglect.
Authorities said sheriff’s deputies went to Hannion’s parents’ home in Oak Forest on Feb. 26 but were unable to locate her.
Her parents claimed she had relocated to Tennessee.
License plate activity indicates Hannion’s car was in the Chicago area until Feb. 21, according to an affidavit filed in federal court. On February 28, an arrest warrant was issued.
Hannion was arrested on March 7th and returned to Cook County on March 23rd.
She was charged with first-degree murder and endangering the life and health of a child, both of which resulted in death.
Hannion is scheduled to appear in bond court on Friday, March 24th.
