Police arrested 52-year-old Robin Deaton on Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping, Monroe Police Department lieutenant and public information officer Morgan Malone confirmed to PEOPLE.
A short manhunt took place on Thursday in search of Deaton prior to her being arrested on Thursday.
Her 51-year-old boyfriend, who is not being publicly identified at this time, told police that Deaton allegedly convinced him to crawl to the back of the storage unit to get something for her and that’s when she slammed the door shut, according to police.
Deaton’s boyfriend had been locked in the Cooper Storage facility in Monroe since Thursday, Feb. 20, with no food or water, according to police.
The unit reportedly had two locks on its door making it impossible for her boyfriend to get out of the unit without the help from someone outside, police said.
The man had called 911 on Monday to report that his girlfriend had locked him inside the storage unit. He was finally able to locate his phone in the darkness of the unit after a week without food or water.
“I’ve been locked in a storage unit for about a week now, and I’ve just now found my phone,” he said in the 911 call, released by Union County Emergency Services.
“My girlfriend locked me in here. She doubled up my lock, and I don’t know how she put me in it but she put me in here.”
He told the dispatcher that his phone”I just can’t breathe. I haven’t had nothing to drink or anything,” he said. The man was taken to an area hospital but has since been released, Charlotte, North Carolina, ABC affiliate WSOC reported.
Was about to die and that he was in unit 43 of the facility. When asked if he needed emergency services, he said, “I just need to get out of here.”
