Chicago police are investigating a shooting that led to the death of a 30-year-old woman in the Rosemoor neighborhood on the Far South Side late Sunday.
Officers were called to the 500 block of East 103rd Street in Rosemoor about 10:20 p.m. to investigate a report of shots fired in the area, according to a statement from police.
Inside an SUV, a white Dodge Journey, officers located a woman who with gunshot wounds to the “head and body,” said police spokeswoman Kellie Bartoli. The woman, who police said was 30 years old, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. She was pronounced dead at 11:07 p.m., according to preliminary information from the medical examiner’s office.
The medical examiner’s office had not identified the woman as of Monday morning. An autopsy was expected to be performed later in the day.
Police said in a media notification that the shooting did “not involve any ride-share fare.” When asked why that information was included in the statement, Bartoli repeated the initial information and did not answer questions.
Bartoli said there was no description of the shooter or shooters, she did not answer whether the shooting may have been captured on surveillance video and she did not answer a question about a possible motive for the shooting.
