WH rejects Trump executive privilege – allows some docs for Jan 6 committee
The Biden admin has reached a compromise with the House select committee to defer requests to release hundreds of Trump documents regarding the Capitol riot – but will release some.
WH deputy counsel Jonathan Su explained to the committee that the compromise would help in “preserving important Executive Branch prerogatives, such as the need for confidentiality in presidential decision-making.”
Trump’s petition to the Supreme Court last week to block the release of documents citing executive privilege was rejected, while Su insisted the withheld documents don’t bear relevance to Jan 6 anyway.
