What in the world is going on in Virginia? Multiple reports of around 50 children missing
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 39 children have gone missing across the state between August 1-13. But according to Virginia State Police, the cases are not connected to kidnappings, and that statistic doesn’t represent an unusual spike.
Now ask your self this simple question. Why in the world would the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children say 39 children have gone missing across the state?
Here is what we know about the situation:
- The number of children currently reported missing is actually below average, VSP said; according to their statistics, the average number of children missing each week in the state is 98. From January, VSP said 3,274 total children were reported missing.
- From January 1st to August 13th, 2025, a total of 3,274 children were reported missing to the Virginia Missing Children Clearinghouse.
- Weekly Average: This averages out to approximately 98 missing children reports per week in Virginia for 2025.
- Active Cases: As of August 13th, 2025, 141 of these cases remained active, representing about 4% of the total reports
Viral videos on the internet claiming there are mass kidnappings of children in Virginia aren’t true, state police said in a public statement Wednesday.
“Virginia State Police is not investigating any reports of mass abductions in Virginia, nor is there evidence of mass abductions occurring in Virginia,” VSP said in a statement on Wednesday.
CODI Alerts are similar to AMBER Alerts; they’re issued in Virginia for students under 17 who are missing under suspicious circumstances or whose disappearance could mean a threat to their safety. All 25 CODI Alerts in Virginia so far this year have ended with the safe recovery of the children involved.
