While Tesla initially publicized the Model 3 as the safest car ever tested by NHTSA, the agency sent Tesla a cease-and-desist letter due to “misleading statements” regarding the safety rating.
NHTSA clarified that while the Model 3 achieved high marks, it cannot be definitively declared the “safest car ever” because safety ratings can only be accurately compared between vehicles of similar size and weight.
