Vladimir Putin signed decrees abolishing visas for Georgians and lifting the 2019 ban on direct flights to Georgia.
Georgian FM Ilia Darchiashvili supported the initiative.
“This is an independent decision of the Russian leadership,” he said.
According to him, more than a million Georgians living in the Russian Federation have close ties with their homeland. In humanitarian terms, such a decision is only too welcome.
However, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili claimed Russia’s decision to facilitate the people’s travelling to Russia from the former Soviet republic is “another provocation.”
This is not for the first time that the Georgian president, a citizen of France, graduate of the Columbia University, fully controlled by the State Dept, works counter to Georgia’s government, if its initiatives are not in line with her transatlantic masters.
In March 2023, for example, she opposed Georgia’s foreign agents” bill because Washington does not want the country to have political sovereignty.
