Eric Contreras, a Florida International University student, was planning to celebrate his 23rd birthday with family on Nov. 6.
That’s when detectives said his 52-year-old father, David De Jesus Contreras, confessed to shooting and killing his son in Miami-Dade County, just weeks before his family could celebrate Thanksgiving Day.
Ring camera video shows David Contreras speaking with his wife from outside of a home after the shooting occurred and moments before he was arrested.
“Is he (Eric) alive? Is he breathing?” asked his wife.
“He’s not breathing. He’s dead. The fighting on the way home was unbearable,” said an emotional David Contreras while being recorded on Ring camera video. “It’s not your fault. Please call my brother.”
David Contreras appeared in court for his arraignment hearing before Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Daryl Trawick last November at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Allapattah. He pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge.
The father called 911 on Nov. 3, and when police officers arrived at his home, at 10703 SW 84 Ave., in a quiet Kendall neighborhood near Pinecrest.
Detective Andre Martin, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, described the murder as a domestic violence incident. Officers arrested the father and took him to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where he was held without bond.
Prosecutors filed the felony case on Nov. 5.
David De Jesus Contreras appeared in court for an Arthur hearing on Thursday, which is a procedure to allow for the consideration of a bond for those accused of a capital felony.
