Both the victim and suspect of a stabbing in Redmond on Wednesday worked at Microsoft, court documents say.
Joseph Richard Cantrell, 27, is being charged with attempted murder and is being held in King County jail on $2 million bail, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Cantrell was arrested around 1 a.m. Thursday after an hours-long standoff in which he barricaded himself inside his apartment, according to the Redmond Police Department.
Police said Cantrell punched the victim, knocked him to the ground and then stabbed him shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday near 156th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Turing Street, outside of Microsoft’s One Esterra building.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and his condition was last described by officials as “critical.”
Charging documents say the two men work at Microsoft but in different areas within the tech giant and didn’t appear to no each other.
After the SWAT team made the arrest, it found a knife and several items with blood on them, officials said.
