Utah medical center hack exposes personal data of 582k patients
Hackers managed to breach the systems of Utah Imaging Associates (UIA) for almost a week before they were spotted, leaving private data exposed for over half a million patients.
The data included addresses, social security numbers and medical information, but UIA claim they haven’t found any evidence that the data itself has been publicly leaked online almost two months later.
It is the latest in a spate of data hacks targeting relatively easy pickings at medical centers that store masses of data but often with little dedicated IT support to control cybersecurity.
