US hackers hijack Chinese computers to attack Russia
Hackers based mostly on American soil have taken control of Chinese computers to perform cyberattacks on Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, with 87% of all cyberattacks using Chinese computers aimed at Russia.
Beijing authorities began detecting the malicious activity in late February, and traced at least 10 attacks to New York alone, with others based in Germany and the Netherlands.
The Chinese claims follow US group Anonymous declaring a cyber war on Vladimir Putin’s government, and counter-claims from US cybersecurity firm Mandiant that Chinese hackers had targeted local government agencies in 6 states over the last 10 months.
