Ukraine aid: US approves $13.6BN package amidst huge spending bill
The House of Representatives has approved a $13.6 billion aid package to Ukraine as part of a massive $1.5tn spending bill to stave off government shutdown.
The Senate must now approve the bill by midnight Friday to avoid that.
The House also backed President Biden’s executive powers decision to ban imports of Russian oil and gas by a 414 to 17 majority.
Although the sum earmarked for Ukraine is more than double Biden’s initial request, speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested it was only the start, telling reporters “all of us will have to do more”.
