Troubles Ahead? UK Tory Calls for MPs to Carry Guns – while the British public faces rampant knife crime
“Two members of parliament have been killed in the past five and a half years… the kind of statistic you would expect in a failing state,” an article in The Spectator begins.
According to the piece, a senior Tory has compared the current situation in the UK to the troubles in Northern Ireland and know wants a firearm for protection. It follows the brutal stabbing of Sir David Amess last week.
In the 12 months prior to March 2021, almost 45,000 stabbing incidents were reported and 221 deaths. 23 of those killed were under the age of 17. (Ben Kinsella Trust – Knife Crime Statistics for Eng & Wales)
