U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan on Monday urged the Biden administration to approve an Alaskan arctic oil project fiercely opposed by environmental groups and stalled while the U.S. reviews an environmental analysis.
U.S. oil producer ConocoPhillips <COP.N) would start the project immediately if the Department of Interior gives a green-light to the project, the Alaskan Republican senator said at the CERAWeek energy conference on Monday.
The Willow project is a $6 billion project that would be located inside the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, a 23 million-acre (93 million-hectare) area on the state’s North Slope that is the largest tract of undisturbed public land in the United States.Â
