On September 7, 2025 around 6:15 p.m., sheriff’s say deputies responded to the the Best Buy off of Walton Way Extension in Augusta, Georgia in reference to a shooting that took place in the parking lot. Upon arrival, they found two women suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m. by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.
The victims were identified as 37-year-old Melissa Cui Domingo and her mother, 74-year-old Elizabeth Cui Domingo.
According to the sheriff’s office, the people involved know each other and the incident appears to be a domestic dispute.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Hajir Talebzadeh, is being treated for injuries, but law enforcement is working on getting warrants for murder charges and he will be booked in the Charles B. Webster Detention Center as soon as he is released.
Melissa Domingo was arrested in January 2022 for shooting Talebzadeh, her husband, in the head. Those charges were recently dropped after it was determined to be self defense.
In August, a judge granted Melissa immunity in the case. Court documents state a judge found witness testimonies credible, depicting a pattern of psychological abuse, control and threats from Talebzadeh.
“Based on witness statements and camera evidence, investigators have determined this was a domestic-related incident. Currently, there is no known threat to the public,” said Chief Lewis Blanchard.
A young child was present but was not injured. Augusta Fire Department firefighters and RCSO deputies remained with the child until DFACS personnel arrived to ensure his care and safety.
Though not confirmed, surveillance video from the parking lot shows this incident may have been during a custody exchange.
Talebzadeh and Melissa were married, but got divorced in November 2024, court records show.
