SPEEDING LEADS TO TWO DEADLY CRASHES IN TWO DAYS — Two women killed in two separate crashes, including an expecting mother.
We want to inform the public about two recent fatal crashes, one of them early Saturday morning, the other on Monday morning.
A pregnant woman in the pickup was thrown from the vehicle. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Her due date was about a week away for her baby. An emergency surgery was performed, but sadly both the unborn baby and the mother died from their injuries.
The driver of the Buick, along with a passenger, were also taken to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing, and the driver of the Buick could face charges/citations.
On 1/17/2022, an officer stopped an ATV at 1400 N. Yale for driving 62 mph in the roadway. The man on the ATV was cited for speeding and illegally driving the ATV in the roadway.
About two hours later, we were called out to a fatality collision at Latimer and Main at 9:30 a.m. The same 4-wheel off road ATV had crashed into a Lexus SUV in the intersection.
Two people were on the ATV, including the man driving who was cited earlier in the morning and another woman with him. Neither rider of the ATV had on a helmet, and we believe speed was a factor. Both riders on the ATV were taken to the hospital. The woman later died.
In April of 2021, Gov. Kevin Stitt signed House Bill 2382 into law. This allows certain Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs) with a bench seat, often called a “side by side”, to obtain state registration and legally operate in the street. This law does not apply to ATVs or “four wheelers” like the one involved in Monday’s crash.
In 2021, there were 69 fatal crashes in the city of Tulsa worked by the police department. Speed and lack of seatbelts were a factor in many of them.
