RawNews1st – At approximately 5:15 AM, a “graveyard” patrol officer observed a vehicle exit a residential tract in the area of Atlanta Ave. and Newland St. at a high rate of speed.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle immediately fled.
The suspects’ vehicle drove northbound on Newland as the officer attempted to catch up. The suspects ran a red signal at Newland and Adams Ave. and collided with an uninvolved vehicle.
The suspects’ vehicle caught fire and quickly became fully engulfed.
The driver and passenger were quickly taken into custody by responding officers and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the uninvolved vehicle also sustained minor injuries.
Arrested:Yonathan Acosta, 18, NorwalkTyrece Sinkler, 22, Long Beach
A search of the suspects’ vehicle revealed multiple freshly cut catalytic converters, a saw and numerous used and new blades. Both suspects were medically cleared and later booked into Huntington Beach City Jail on felony charges.
The investigation is ongoing and no additional details will be released at this time.
