Two nurses and a medical resident were slashed by a visitor at Newark Beth Israel Hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The woman, identified as 37-year-old Firdousi Abdul-Hakim, was visiting a patient in the pediatric intensive care unit when she pulled out a weapon and slashed two nurses and a medical resident during an altercation just after 7 a.m., police said.Â
Abdul-Hakim, who was visiting the patient with another person, used a knife or some sort of cutting implement, according to police.
The hospital workers suffered lacerations and were reportedly each in stable condition. They were treated for minor injuries in the hospital’s emergency room.
“She shouldn’t have to come to work and get stabbed. That don’t make no sense. But you know, it’s the world we’re living in,” said Alishia Willis, who lives in Newark.Â
No one else was hurt, but patients were jarred.
