Two men tried to set fire to an immigration services building in Bakersfield, California earlier this month — but their attempt quite literally backfired when they accidentally set themselves ablaze in the process.
Newly released security footage shows the pair pouring accelerant over the building and attempting to light it on fire, only for the flames to engulf their own clothes, sending them running and screaming away from the scene.
The arsonists had been targeting the Servicio de Immigracion, a small business that offers services like helping immigrant workers file their income taxes.
Fortunately, the fire was contained to the building’s garage, but the center will temporarily close to repair damages from smoke that got into the building.
“We are a small business, and we help many people, so there will be people who will not be able to receive our services due to inactivity,” the center’s owner said.
