A tragic update, two children killed AND their mom being charged with their murder.
Lexington Police say Nikki James, 43, is charged with two counts of murder.
Police say she is being held in custody while further charges are pending. According to police, the murders happened in Lexington Monday night at an apartment complex off Rogers Road.
The Fayette County Coroner says Deon Williams was 13, his younger sister Skyler was 5.
The coroner’s report says the two died minutes apart in the E.R. from multiple stab wounds and cuts.
Neighbors at Parkway Manor Apartments on Rogers Road say Deon and Skyler were well-known in the neighborhood and often played outside with the other neighborhood kids.
“We’re all about keeping our kids safe out here so whether somebody else’s kid is outside playing, we would always keep an eye on them. So, it’s kind of hard to like even imagine something like this could happen, especially to two little babies,” says Bayes.
Some of Deon’s friends in the neighborhood say while he came across a little skittish, he was the nicest person, never calling anyone names.
“They’re just babies,” says Desiree Bayes, a neighbor. “So, it is hard.”
Police say the two victims, ages 13 and 5, died from their injuries. According to police, one person has been charged with two counts of murder.
Additional charges are pending and will be released at a later time, according to police.
The victims’ names will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is still ongoing.
