According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), three traffic stops involving a 45 year old truck driver from Brampton all occurred between 10 a.m. on January 28 and 8 a.m. on January 29 along the Highway 11 corridor.
The first traffic stop occurred around 10:45 a.m. on January 28 following complaints of a semi truck swerving on the road. OPP caught up with the truck on Highway 11 near Ramore and issued the driver four citations.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on January 29, OPP conducted a traffic stop on the same truck and driver on Highway 11 near Val Cote and issued another four citations.
The truck was towed and impounded in Cochrane.
Following further investigation, OPP issued multiple charges to the trucking company owner in Edmonton, Alberta, including:
- Fail to surrender the inspection schedule
- Two counts of failure to enter defects in the daily inspection report
- Improperly driving a commercial motor vehicle with a minor defect in it or in a drawn vehicle
- Request, require, or allow driver not to comply with section 18
“The OPP encourages drivers to operate within their allotted hours,” police said. “Driving while fatigued affects your judgment, perception, and reaction time.”
