Rapper Tory Lanez is being held in solitary confinement for fear of attacks by other inmates at LA’s notorious County Jail as he begins his ten-year sentence for shooting former lover Megan Thee Stallion.
Wardens are checking on the hip-hop star every 30 minutes in the administrative segregation unit that has previously housed OJ Simpson and That 70s Show rapist Danny Masterson.
Lanez, 31, real name Daystar Peterson, pleaded with judge David Herriford to ‘give me some sort of alternative that is not prison’ as he was sentenced last week for the 2020 gun attack after a pool party at Kylie Jenner‘s house.
But the rapper now finds himself alone in a cell for 22 hours a day in the violent and overcrowded jail.
At least 12 people have died in Los Angeles County jails since June 1 including Joseph Hutchinson was found stabbed to death in Men’s Central Jail on August 4.
Earlier this summer, a video was smuggled out of the facility showing dozens of horrific attacks in the facility seemingly recorded on the jail’s CCTV system, the LA Times reported.
The Canadian performer shot Megan five times, hitting her twice in the feet, following an alcohol-fueled argument in his SUV as they drove in the Hollywood Hills.
Megan – real name Megan Pete – asked the driver to stop the car and she got out – which was when she said Lanez yelled ‘Dance b***h’ and fired a gun five times at her, injuring her feet so seriously that she needed surgery.
She testified in court that Lanez offered her and her assistant Kelsey Harris a million dollars to keep quiet about the shooting and asked them not to report him because he was already ‘on probation.’
The City’s DA office pressed for the maximum sentence possible claiming the rapper showed ‘a complete lack of regard for human life’.
Now he is on suicide watch, allowed to shower every other day, and only allowed into the jailhouse grounds for three hours a week.
Nearly half the current 12,700 prisoners in the facility are suffering from diagnosed mental health problems, according to campaign group Vera.
The jail has been under court oversight since 1978 because of the poor conditions with plans for a replacement facility on the table for the last 20 years.
