Illumination and Nintendo, during today’s “Nintendo Direct,” shared new footage featuring Yoshi from “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” the new animated “Super Mario” film scheduled for theatrical release worldwide April 2026 by Universal Pictures. The theatrical release date for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been changed from April 3, 2026, to April 1, 2026, in the United States and many other countries and regions. It will be released in theaters in Japan on April 24, 2026, and is scheduled to be released in theaters in other countries and regions in April 2026 as well.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie (released in 2023), which grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide. As with the previous film, Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo Representative Director and Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto will serve as co-producers. Universal Pictures and Nintendo are financing the production, with Universal Pictures handling worldwide distribution. As with the previous film, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will direct, Matthew Fogel will write the screenplay, and Brian Tyler will continue to provide the music.
