The NYPD confirmed that there has been an officer-involved shooting in the 113th precinct in Queens on Saturday evening.
The NYPD said the shooting involving police happened shortly before 6:10 p.m. on 116th Avenue, but they would not say whether an officer or a civilian had been shot, and they would not provide the condition of the person shot.
It appears the shooting occurred at a residence.
Mayor Eric Adams was at the shooting scene Saturday evening where he was being briefed, his spokesman Fabien Levy said on Twitter.
Police on Twitter asked the public to avoid the area of 116th Avenue and Francis Lewis Boulevard due to the investigation.
“It sounded like fireworks,” Jamal Walker, a nearby resident told amNewYork Metro in disbelief.
