According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Bobby Marks, the new CBA agreed to by the league and players union will allow for teams to have more than just the two designated supermax players they currently can have on the books.
This, of course, has positive implications for a number of teams but none more so than the Cavs and the long-term future of their big three featuring Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley.
“NBA and NBPA agreed to eliminate restrictions limiting a team to two designated super-max players,” ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday.
“This would have a huge impact for Cavs, who have Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland on super max deals and Evan Mobley approaching rookie extension.”
As noted by Woj, Mitchell and Garland are already on super-max deals.
And with Mobley approaching his rookie extension, Cleveland will be able offer him a super-max deal and essentially keep their big three — all under the age of 26 — at the franchise for the considerable future.
