Maine authorities say a man who was arrested twice on domestic violence charges in a span of two days cut his own face with a razor blade in an attempt to get his girlfriend arrested.
Aric Houghton, 30, of San Antonio, Texas, was first arrested Tuesday for assaulting his girlfriend at her Bangor apartment. Police said Houghton was charged with domestic violence aggravated assault, obstructing the report of a crime and criminal mischief.
The Bangor Police Department said it then received a call from Houghton on Wednesday, as he reported that he had been assaulted by his girlfriend at her apartment.
Responding officers said Houghton was bleeding from cuts on his face and claimed his girlfriend had attacked him with a razor blade. Houghton was transported to a hospital for treatment.
According to police, Houghton’s girlfriend told officers that Houghton had a key to her apartment and attacked her again after entering it. She further told police that she was afraid Houghton was there to kill her.
Houghton’s girlfriend also reported to officers that Houghton had a razor blade and had cut his own face, telling her that he was going to get her arrested for assaulting him.
Police said Houghton was arrested a second time on a charge of domestic violence aggravated assault. He was also charged with violation of conditions of release.
Houghton was transported to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remains held as of Thursday, according to authorities.
Police said Houghton’s girlfriend was treated for her injuries at an area hospital.
