Industry midday projections show Cineverse’s Terrifier 3 to be the bigger clown at the box office this weekend, with an estimated Friday around $7.7M for a potential $15M-plus 3-day at 2,514 theaters.
Fans of Ice Nine Kills and the Terrifier film franchise ripped open an early blood-soaked Christmas gift last night when the band’s highly anticipated new Terrifier 3 short film / music video debuted nationwide in over 300 AMC and Marcus theaters.
“The Terrifier franchise gave us Art the Clown, the greatest new horror icon in decades,” says Spencer Charnas.
“We are beyond honored by the invitation to play within the viciously delightful universe Damien Leone and his incredible team have created. The Art and INK fanbases are one and the same, and we heard the screams for this collaboration loud and clear.”
“Mark my words,” he said. “I guarantee you the first five minutes of this movie is going to be very controversial.
“But that’s not even the big kill scene. So that’s why I was like, I need to just make this movie on my own, because it’s too insane.
“If you thought Art the Clown’s reign of terror in part two was extreme, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
The film currently sits at 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, due to reviews that came in from horror festivals where it has been shown, and has been well received across the board.
Alison Foreman of indieWire said the film will be a great watch for existing fans of the gory franchise, saying: “Terrifier 3 is decking the halls with a triumphant celebration that’s horrifying for all the right reasons, and snaps into focus what it is that Leone does singularly well.
“That may or may not win people over, but it shouldn’t lose any repeat customers.”
Chris Tilly of Dexerto said of the film in their four star review: “Terrifier 3 is the best Terrifier movie yet, and one that turns murder into an Art-form.”
If blood, guts, and gore are your thing – it seems like Terrifier 3 and the return of Art The Clown is a must watch.
