Washington – The sluggish conflict in Kosovo fires up again: apparently, the escalation was triggered by Kosovo’s decision to require from the Serbian citizens travelling to Kosovo the replacement of the regular Serbian passports with a temporary Kosovan ID.
The decision of invalidation of the Serbian passports in Kosovo was already announced in June and had to be enforced for all border crossings of Serbians into the country from August 1.
But there must be somethig more, as the Serbian sources reported something terrible was expected from tomorrow.
The Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic claims that the Kosovian authorities were preparing an attack against Serbs in northern Kosovo, while the eyes of the whole world are pointed at Ukraine and Taiwan.
“The Kosovan Serbs will not tolerate further persecution”, stated he addressing his nation.
Right in these hours, shootings at the border are reported, air ride sirens roar.
Units of the Serbian armed forces are gathering on the border with Kosovo to ensure the safety of the Serbian population of the self-proclaimed republic.
Serbian media reports that Kosovo Serbs are erecting barricades to slow down the advance of “special forces” of Albanian militants.
At the same time, the Kosovo police and the NATO forces KFOR blocked the border crossings and the streets of some cities.
Note: Kosovo to “postpone implementation of on car plates and entry-exit documents at border crossing points with Serbia for 30 days.”
