Teen arrested & charged with murder in shooting death of 16-year: Cincinnati
It happened on June 19, when officers with the Cincinnati Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Vine Street for a report of a shooting in an apartment. Officers found one victim, who police said was shot in the chest.
The coroner’s office identified the victim as 16-year-old Rasheed Mills.
The victim’s father spoke with WLWT last week, saying Mills had just turned 16 years old. His father said Mills was a sophomore at Taft High school and had two jobs, one working as a camp counselor at a camp for kids with diabetes.
On Tuesday, CPD, along with the help of the Youth Services Unit and Fugitive Apprehension Squad, arrested a 14-year-old boy and charged him with murder, reckless homicide and felonious assault.
Those who knew the victim said he was a good kid.
“I just gave him a hug a few days ago,” a neighbor who knew Mills said. “I don’t know what happened with the drama or anything like that. I don’t know nothing about that but he was a very nice young man.”
Mills was a participant at Camp Korelitz and was in training to become a camp counselor this summer.
“We are saddened by the tragic passing of Rasheed Mills, who was a cherished participant at our Camp Korelitz and was going to be a counselor in training this summer. Rasheed was a valued member of our Camp family and will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time,” Joe Esten, American Diabetes Association camp director, said in a statement.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
