A man was fatally stabbed in a Berlin metro station on Saturday afternoon, prompting a swift police response that resulted in the attacker being shot and wounded.
According to a police spokesperson, officers were able to neutralise the assailant shortly after the attack.
Prior to the stabbing, the suspect had allegedly threatened several passersby with a knife on Knobelsdorffstrasse, a street in the vicinity. Police were alerted and immediately launched a search.
The attacker fled toward the nearby metro station, where the fatal assault took place. Emergency services later located the suspect on Schloßstraße, not far from the scene of the crime.
There, he allegedly threatened officers with the knife, prompting police to open fire. Four shots were reportedly heard, with at least one striking the man in the upper body.
According to Bild, the suspect received emergency medical treatment at the scene before being transported to a hospital for further care.
