Swedish artist who depicted Prophet Mohammed as a dog killed in ‘road accident’
Lars Vilks was travelling in a civilian police car when a truck collided with the vehicle. Local media say the 75-year-old author and cartoonist died along with two police officers.
The truck driver was hospitalized.
Vilks published his caricature of the Prophet Muhammad in 2007 and had been under police protection since.
Al Qaeda offered $100,000 for his murder shortly after, and he survived a gun attack at a free speech event in Denmark back in 2015. Another film director was killed, but it’s believed Vilks was the target.
