25-year-old Denzel Furance who tied up the wrists, ankles of cellphone store employees during armed robbery has been sentenced to 23 years in federal prison.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, who announced the sentence in a news release, said 25-year-old Denzel Furance was handed down the sentence during a hearing on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Berlin, Furance entered the Wheaton Sprint store just before 8 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2019. Authorities say he was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and was wearing a mask, medical gloves and a hooded sweatshirt.
Once inside the store, Furance ordered two employees into the back storeroom at gunpoint, where a third employee and a safe were located.
Once inside the storeroom, authorities say Furance ordered one of the victims to bind the wrists and ankles of the other two employees with duct tape. He then bound the wrists and ankles of the third employee, before ordering them to open the safe, which contained electronics, at gunpoint.
After the safe was opened, Furance stole more than 50 items from the store and placed them inside of garbage bags that he had brought with him.
Before leaving, Furance covered the mouths and eyes of the three victims with duct tape and fled the scene.
