In August of 2019, Wagoner County Deputies and Investigators worked a criminal case involving the drowning death of 4-year-old Steven Powers III, who drowned while swimming without a flotation device in the Ft. Gibson Lake while in the care and custody of his father, Steven Powers Jr., who was under the influence of intoxicants at the time.
At the conclusion of this case, Steven Powers Jr., the victim’s father, as charged with and pled to 1st Degree Manslaughter for this negligent death.
In 2022, the Wagoner County District Attorney’s Office gave Powers probation for 15 years for this charge following his plea.
In early 2023, it was found that Powers had violated his probation, causing the Wagoner County District Attorney to issue an arrest warrant for revocation of Powers’ probation, and Wagoner County Investigators began the search for Powers.
Recently, Powers was located in the Tulsa area and Investigators requested the help of the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office to verify this location.
On August 3, 2023, Wagoner County Investigator Ben Noble and members of the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad located Powers at a residence in Tulsa in the Admiral and Harvard area, and Powers was taken into custody without incident.
Powers is now awaiting new sentencing on this 1st Degree Manslaughter case.
The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, the Office of Probation and Parole, the Wagoner County District Attorney, and the public for their assistance in apprehending this subject.
