Indiana – An woman was sentenced to prison for stabbing her ex-husband’s girlfriend and leaving her to die in a pool of blood.
Kristy Sue Sewell was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 48 years in prison for the murder of 28-year-old Kirsten Holland.
On June 28, 2019, Richmond police arrived at a home on S. 12th Street in Richmond, Indiana. Officers found Holland lying in a pool of blood with several knives still stuck in her body.
An autopsy stated Holland was stabbed 14 times, but did not die straight away. Instead, she was left to bleed out on the floor.
Investigators found out that Holland had been the girlfriend of Sewell’s ex-husband. Court records show that Sewell and her husband filed for a dissolution of their marriage in the fall of 2018.
Holland had just left a recovery home and was supposed to stay at the S. 12th Street for a few days. Holland and Sewell’s former husband also shared an infant together.
Sewell’s husband called police after he couldn’t open the front door, noticing what he thought to be a body blocking the door from being opened. Police ended up kicking open a back door and finding Holland’s body blocking the front door.
Sewell’s husband supplied police with surveillance footage from inside the home that showed Sewell pacing around the kitchen and washing her hands before stepping over something on the ground.
Sewell ended up asking strangers to use their phone and called a taxi. She then crawled into her mother’s home and went to sleep.
Police later found clothes stained with blood at Sewell’s mother’s house–the same clothes Sewell was seen wearing in the surveillance footage.
Police learned that this wasn’t the first time Sewell had been accused of stabbing someone.
Sewell’s husband told police that roughly a week before Holland’s murder, Sewell had stabbed him in the back with a knife, leaving a wound one inch deep.
