Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested 18-year-old Trinity Madison Poague and charged her with Felony Murder, Aggravated Battery, and First Degree Cruelty to Children.
She is charged in the death of an 18-month-old Romeo Angles.
According to Deputy Coroner Wright, he responded to the Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus, Georgia, on Sunday, January 14, where Angles was pronounced dead of apparent blunt-force trauma.
Previous media reports claim Wright’s office said Angles sustained his fatal injuries in a dorm room of the Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia, but Wright disputed these claims, saying his office is not sure where the alleged crime took place.
The coroner said Poague was dating Angles’ supposed father, but the child’s birth certificate does not name anyone as the biological father.
Deputy Coroner Wright says that on the night Angles’ died, the supposed father identified the infant as Jaxton Drew to hospital staff. After Angles was pronounced dead at the hospital, the GBI opened an investigation and conducted several interviews. This culminated in Poague’s arrest.
Poague was crowned Miss Donalsonville in 2023 and later competed in the Miss National Peanut Festival Pageant.
She is a sophomore at Georgia Southwestern State University’s Americus, Georgia campus.
Poague is currently being held with no bond in the Sumter County Jail.
