John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo, 20, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Plymouth District Court on one count of murder for the death of Robert Aponte-Flores.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said at about 3:55 p.m. Saturday, members of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section located and arrested Monteiro Macedo without incident at an apartment in New Bedford.
Aponte-Flores, 25, of New Bedford, was shot multiple times at a park near Fearing Pond, which is within the state forest, at approximately 2:40 p.m. on July 12. He was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth, where he was pronounced dead.
A witness told WCVB she pulled into the parking area as CPR was being performed on Aponte-Flores. She also performed CPR on the victim before he was taken to the hospital.
“He had three gunshots, one to the face, shoulder and arm,” the woman, named Nicole, told WCVB. “That was pretty much the most scariest thing I’ve ever done. I’m really sorry for their family.”
Cruz said that multiple witnesses told investigators that an altercation between Aponte-Flores and Monteiro Macedo happened in a picnic area before the shooting.
