A person has been arrested after opening fire on Berwyn police officers during a traffic stop on Friday evening.
Around 7:45 p.m., officers observed a vehicle with multiple occupants make an illegal U-turn on Cermak Road near Gunderson Avenue.
When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the front-seat passenger leaned out the window and fired two shots at the officers, according to police.
According to police, the vehicle then sped away through the alley toward Ridgeland Avenue. After that, the front-seat passenger threw a gun out the window. According to police, officers stopped and recovered the discarded weapon.
Officials said responding officers found the suspect who fired shots at police lying on the ground in the 2200 block of Ridgeland Avenue and took him into custody.
Berwyn police officers fired no shots.
The suspects may be gang members from outside the Berwyn area, according to police.
No charges have been filed yet as the investigation is in the “beginning stages” at this time, according to police.
