East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s detectives arrested a man accused of moving a victim’s body during an active homicide investigation.
Authorities arrested 38-year-old Damion Matthews and charged him with unlawful disposal of remains and obstruction of justice after he allegedly moved Macy Peebles’ remains after her death.
On Feb. 23 at 8:32 a.m., EBRSO deputies responded to 8838 GSRI Avenue about an unresponsive person.
Deputies learned from fire department personnel that Peebles, 27, had died outside of a 4-plex apartment unit that was under construction.
Officials say homicide detectives noted that the woman’s body was inside a fenced-in walkway of the property.
She was laying on her back with both arms and legs outstretched.
Arrest documents say there are indications that Peebles’ remains had been faced down for some time after her death, which was not the position she was found.
The positioning of the body and the condition of her clothes suggested her body had been dragged to the location, according to detectives.
EBRSO officials say homicide detectives located video-surveillance footage from a nearby residence that captured the area where the victim’s remains were located.
