A man called 911 to report he checked on his 6-month-old son in his crib and found him dead. Authorities say the man attempted CPR while emergency services were dispatched to his Evansville, Indiana home.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) says life-saving measures were unsuccessful in reviving the infant.
Authorities say 25-year-old Shane Hedrick admitted to striking and injuring his son earlier that day, and said he found his son dead several hours later.
Deputies said conditions inside the home were deplorable, describing clutter, trash and debris and animal urine and feces inside the residence.
Hedrick was arrested and transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is being held without bond until making a court appearance.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff also confirmed that the child’s mother, 21-year-old Loreena Marie Nance, was also arrested in connection with the infant’s death. The Vanderburgh County Coroner says an autopsy is set for January 26.
