Charles County deputies Thursday said the woman was arrested after picking up the boy in her vehicle, a white Chevrolet Malibu, as he was walking in Bryans Road, Md near the bus stop.
An 8-year-old child was found distressed on the side of a Charles County, Maryland road, with officers learning that a woman he didn’t know picked him up on the way to his bus stop.
The woman was later identified as 64-year-old Krystal Ninette Clay, of Bryans Road. She has been charged with a felony for abduction of a child under 12.
Deputies said a witness, a concerned woman who did not want to be identified or quoted, called 9-1-1 after seeing the child in distress when Clay’s vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and asked the child to get in the car. After initially declining, the boy hopped into the vehicle.
Officers who arrived at the scene determined that the woman did not know the child and reunited him with a parent, according to a statement.
Charles County Sheriff Spokesperson Diane Richardson said, “We know that she picked him up. She did not know who he was.
He did not know who she was. She had no right to pick him up. So she’s been charged with abduction of a child under the age of 12 which is a felony.”

7News’ Maryland Bureau Chief Brad Bell spoke to the woman who some called a hero. She said she saw the car parked off Chapmans Landing Road in front of her home with the child crying outside.
At first, she thought there was car trouble but when she spoke to the woman and the little boy she realized he was in trouble and so she called 911.
