Is it time for “Independence Day 3”?
Southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska, a photographer captured an unusual phenomenon in the night sky Saturday morning – a stunning, bright spiral surrounded by the aurora borealis of the Northern Lights.
But there’s something very different about a sudden Celestial Centerpiece: it moves.
“It just got bigger and bigger,” photographer Todd Salatt told the Anchorage Daily News, adding that the “beautiful piece of art in the sky” was broadcast live about five minutes later.
“I have absolutely no idea what it was… I think it’s probably the strangest thing I’ve ever seen.”
Hundreds of miles northeast in the remote Arctic region of Kotzebue, midwife Elizabeth Withnall saw something similar.
