12 people have been arrested in Madrid while Spanish police seized 600 kilograms of cocaine in an operation aimed at dismantling the capital’s largest distribution network.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Colombian authorities.The Spanish police said the cocaine was seized from the alleged drug smugglers who were arrested, lived in luxury homes and drove luxury vehicles. The criminal organisation which has been described as “violent”.
The police searched 15 properties and impounded 20 cars. One of the vehicle is valued at more than €250,000 while six vehicles had special compartments to transport drugs. €700,000 in cash were also seized by the police.The arrests occurred in various Spanish cities including Badajoz, Guadalajara, Madrid, Malaga and Valencia.
According to the police, the head of the operation was a Moroccan national who operated with his two brothers.
A lawyer who allegedly carried out paid legal work, advised on money laundering issues and carried out cocaine transactions, was among those arrested.
