South Korea: Facial Recognition to Track Covid Cases as Infections Surge

An AI facial recognition system will be used to keep track of South Korean Covid cases in Bucheon, one of the country’s biggest cities.

The project will begin its trial in January and is going to take advantage of some 10,820 security cameras to track movement of active Covid-19 carriers and their contacts.

The news of the AI system rollout comes after South Korea reported 1,030 new Covid infections Sunday, marking the largest single-day increase and the second daily record in a row.
