After shots were fired on Lake Shore Drive Friday night, a Chicago police officer was taken to a nearby hospital.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability in Chicago said it is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened shortly after 8 p.m. near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and South Lake Shore Drive.
Officers pulled over a vehicle suspected of being involved in an aggravated battery on a police officer earlier this month.
The driver reversed the vehicle after pulling over in the 1100 block of South Lake Shore Drive and collided with an officer approaching on foot.
The wanted vehicle fled southbound, and an officer fired, but no one was hit.
The vehicle came to a halt in the 7200 block of South Vincennes.
The occupants fled on foot and were apprehended quickly. A weapon was found.
The officer who was hit by the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in good condition with a broken leg. There were no additional injuries reported.
Lake Shore Drive was closed for police activity but has since reopened.
The officer(s) involved will be assigned routine administrative duties for 30 days.
