A 20 year-old man was killed and a two year-old child was critically wounded in a drive by style shooting on 19th Street in Tuscaloosa’s West End Sunday, March 13, 2022. The shooting occurred beside A.L. Freeman Park.
Tuscaloosa police were called to a residence across from A.L. Freeman Park adjacent to Westlawn Middle School. Multiple shots had been fired with shell casings marked by evidence tags lying at various points in the street.
“It is still very early in the investigation, but we won’t stop until we have an arrest,” Blankley said.
The chief confirmed at least one gunman was in a car when he fired his weapon. Police believe at least some of the shots were fired from a rifle.
“It’s obviously a drive-by. We do know shots were fired from a vehicle, but that’s all the information we have at this time,” Blankley said.
“We definitely want this to stop. This community wants this to stop. We have to come together as a police department and a community to intervene with these suspects. It’s a tragic incident that happened today. Its tragic any time anybody dies, but its especially so when a child is involved. We are praying for the child that it will pull through,” Blankley said.
