HOMICIDE — Security Guard shoots and kills armed thief.
On 2/24/22 around 9:55 p.m., we received a call of a shooting in a gas station parking lot near Pine and Peoria.
After investigating, Detectives learned the security guard confronted Dewayne James in the parking lot when James exited the store with two cases of beer he did not pay for.
When the security guard approached James, James pulled out a black semi-automatic pistol. Witnesses said the security guard gave several commands for James to drop the weapon. When James refused, the security guard shot him.
Dewayne James was taken to the hospital and died about 30 minutes later.
No one else was injured. The homicide is still under investigation. At this time, no arrest has been made.

A. Homicide is the killing of one human being by another.
Murder, Manslaughter, etc are criminal charges. There is also justifiable Homicide when there are no criminal charges filed on the person.
