SEATTLE SCHOOLS SECRETLY SURVEYED 67,000 KIDS ABOUT THEIR CRUSHES AND GENDER IDENTITY
Here’s a story that’ll make parents everywhere check what forms they’re signing.
Over 20 Seattle middle and high schools gave students as young as 11 a survey asking about their sexual orientation, gender identity, and whether they want to “be in a romantic relationship” this year.
Parents weren’t told about these questions beforehand.
The survey, called “Check Yourself,” has been running for nearly a decade and collected data from 67,000 students.
Beyond the romance stuff, it asks about smoking, drinking, drugs, suicidal thoughts, and home problems.
Some sixth-graders pushed back. One wrote ‘No I’m also twelve’ in response. Another asked ‘why do you want to know my sexual orientation.’
One kid summed it up: ‘I never want to do this again.’
The data was allegedly shared with outside groups like Seattle Children’s Hospital and King County – without parents knowing.
Now the US Department of Education is investigating.
Parents are demanding answers, with nearly two dozen signing a letter insisting the district get actual written permission before handing kids these surveys.
Seattle dropped $1.5 million in federal grant money on this program.
The county insists they did nothing wrong – but their own 2024 report quietly admits a school district “accidentally” released “sensitive student identifying information” a few years back.
So much for those reassurances about privacy.
