Seattle police are investigating a shooting in the Capitol Hill neighborhood early Sunday morning that sent four people to the hospital.
According to police, the shooting took place during an illegal street racing event.
2023 has been a violent year in Seattle already. Crime data from the Seattle Police Department through June 30 shows 28 homicides and 1,533 aggravated assaults.
Of those, 99 were in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. That’s the second-highest number of aggravated assaults for neighborhoods in the city second only to the downtown commercial district.
There’s also an ongoing staffing shortage for SPD. In May, Chief Adrian Diaz said his department remains about 300 officers short of its pre-2020 levels.
