Satanic Temple launches abortion clinic named after Catholic Supreme Court justice.
The facility, which is located in New Mexico, was named “The Samuel Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic.”
In June, Justice Alito, along with the rest of the Supreme Court, overturned Roe v. Wade.
Alito wrote the majority opinion, noting that the court previously ruled incorrectly in Roe and another case that bolstered abortion rights, Casey v. Planned Parenthood.
The Satanic Temple’s website includes a cartoon image of a woman — presumably Alito’s mother — saying, “If only abortion was legal when I was pregnant.”
The release noted that TST Health is a virtual clinic that “provides free medication abortion services to those participating in TST’s religious ritual.” It schedules screenings and appointments, as well as prescribes abortion medication — via mail — for patients.
“While abortion clinics are shutting down everywhere, TST is striking back,” according to the release.
The release also noted that the Satanic Temple hopes to expand operations into other states.
“This is just the beginning,” Erin Helian, who is the executive director of campaigns, noted in the release. “We will remain steadfast as we continue the fight to uphold reproductive justice in the United States.”
