Russia security pact proposal to deter NATO expansion east
Russian FM Sergey Lavrov has said Moscow will table plans for a security pact, he hoped would encourage NATO to desist from apparent military build-up near Russian territory.
“NATO refuses to constructively examine our proposals to de-escalate tensions and avoid dangerous incidents,” Lavrov told the OSCE.
“Turning our neighboring countries into bridgeheads of confrontation with Russia and deploying NATO forces in direct proximity to areas of strategic importance for our security is categorically unacceptable.”
